The Atlanta Braves have signed seventeen year veteran Livan Hernandez to a one year, 750K major league contract. This means Hernandez will be on the roster on Opening Day.

Livan Hernandez, 37, has played for seven different teams, and the Braves will be his eighth. His career record is 174-176, and has a career ERA of 4.39. Hernandez signed with the Houston Astros on a minor league deal this offseason after spending the last two in a half years with the Washington Nationals. Hernandez was cut earlier on Friday by Houston. Hernandez was 8-13 with a 4.47 ERA last year pitching 175.1 innings in 29 starts.

The Braves plan to use Livan as a long reliever, the first time in his career he will be have a defined role in the pen. He will also be relied on to make spot starts, letting relievers Kris Medlen and Cristhian Martinez solely focus on the bullpen.

Hernandez will pitch his eighteenth season in the majors. Hernandez is a two-time all star, being selected in 2004 and 2005. He has led the majors in innings pitched three times in his career and twice in complete games. Hernandez won the 1997 World Series with the Florida Marlins, and was named both NLCS and World Series MVP that same year.

Hernandez can earn up to 750K in incentives this year.
